Boy was I enlightened! These people have twisted the bible around so much ! They can lie to you to get you to become a believer of their faith but once you are one of them you can't lie to them. They encourage family's to let their family members / kids die before they get a blood transfusion. They are completely opposite of what our Lord Jesus Christ/ GOD is all about and the bible says when you lead people astray from Gods word it would be better if they were never born because they will go down the the pit of hell. I have a friend who they were trying to get to and still are, but at least I know about the jehovah witness faith so I know how to try and explain things better and know somewhat how they are thinking.
This is very good information from an ex Jehovah witness. So you don't believe the lies of their doctrine. The Truth will set you free.
I enjoyed reading this book and learning of the trials experienced by Joe. His account of the life in and out of the Witnesses is extremely interesting. When he spoke to his Grandfather about his witnessing always, he found that his Grandfather was afraid if he died and hadn't witnessed that day, he would not go to heaven. His Mother suffered needlessly from Shingles, from lack of treatment. Reading of all the unnecessary suffering that went on, makes one very sad. You want to shake them with the truth.Loved how he spoke about trying to witness to the Witness, they are trained excessively to react to what we have to say! Also if you belong to the Catholic Church, that is called Satan's Church by this Religion! How freeing, and feeling alive it must be to get away from a cult such as the Witnesses! The Author speaks of his meetings after getting free. They attend conventions, talking with people who are now saved.I really recommend this eye opening and enjoyable read.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Hanibal Books. Rescuing Slaves of the Watchtower is a candid testimony of how Joe B. Hewitt became an ex-Jehovah Witness and why. Slaves, to me, sounded derogatory at first glance, but we are all slaves to either evil or righteousness, based on Scripture.Hewitt talks about the different lies he learned-those that are outright lies that twist Scripture, and those that omit Scripture. How he believes that if any JW would read their Bible without using any Watchtower materials, they would see the truths of the Gospel in their own NWT version or at least question the validity of the Watchtower messages. He goes on to distinguish how the Watchtower "lies, has more than a century of false prophecies (which makes them a false prophet), does 180-degree turns in their dogma, totalitarian hierarchy, toleration of child abuse, and glaring contradictions of Biblical truth." But he also has a section on multiple ways to reach out and witness in a loving way.For a better understanding of Jehovah Witnesses, their beliefs and how Scripture is used errantly in many of their teachings, this would be a good starter book. He's very thorough in how and what he presents.
Rescuing Slaves of the Watchtower by Joe B. Hewitt gives an inside view into the enigmatic religion most people know from getting a knock on their front door. Hewitt was a third generation Jehovah's Witness when he was attacked by some boys in his class for refusing to salute the flag, a JW stance. When he turned to the Bible to find support in Scripture for this belief, he instead discovered that the verse oft quoted to explain that refusal was taken out of context. This sent him on a quest through the Bible to investigate other claims he had grown up believing, only to find them disproved again and again. Hewitt eventually left them and became a pastor who devoted his life to exposing the lies of the Watchtower and freeing its followers. This expose is shocking in its accusations of protecting child molesters, as well as the refusal to allow blood transfusions that has allowed the deaths of far too many, especially children. Hewitt likens the Watchtower to a cult, and he has the evidence to back it up. Unlike other books on the subject, he does not encourage readers to quote Scripture when trying to debate a JW who arrives at their door, because JWs are trained with military like training to fire back their own Scriptures with the kind of memory most Christians can only dream of. Instead, Hewitt encourages Christians to ask JWs questions about child molestation that has been protected, and how the Watchtower encourages its followers to lie to "worldly" people without punishment. He describes JW as a religion of works rather than a religion of grace; its followers are constantly working at witnessing to earn their place in an earthly Paradise. It's a job, not a joy, and church members are required to fill out weekly time sheets demonstrating their devotion. Hewitt also includes a fascinating list of several surprising things that JWs are unable to do, according to church law, or face a stiff penalty, including disfellowship and loss of Paradise, such as: use of wind chimes, bonfires, voting, hunting or fishing, donating to charity, sharing "unbridled passion" with their spouse, or working overtime. Hewitt falters a bit in his discussion of spirit/soul/person/body which gets a bit thick and difficult to understand, but his example of a little boy saying that he didn't kick a girl, his leg did, gives an excellent picture of Jesus working as God's arm in the world. Hewitt is a passionate writer who believes deeply in his message. His anger and betrayal by the Watchtower is obvious, but his evidence is well-supported. The book is most powerful when giving direct examples of the Watchtower's abuse of its members.
Not very informing. I think the author was biased and none of the tips worked. The only book I have ever wanted to delete from my Kindle.
Very revealing. I would recommend this book to anyone who knows someone caught up in this cult. Eternal life is a serious matter that requires an informed understanding and recognition of our true savior.
