I already cannot recommend this book enough even though I have not read it in its entirety at this writing. This book is the ONLY book I will recommend to anyone looking for answers to "what the heck is going on with me?"My mom taught me that, "dreams are not to be taken seriously; they are the garbage dumps of the mind." I've known for many years now that I didn't---nor will---accept that because IT SIMPLY DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. The subconscious mind can be a mighty foe or extraordinary guide and helper. Without understanding our dreams, I believe that we are chopping off part of ourselves that could have been nurtured and saved, thereby making us more grounded and whole human beings. My husband and I recently relocated to northern Arizona after being in the Phoenix West Valley for over 13 years. Dr. Fox, if I didn't have to drive this pass to get there, I would be in your office. It's been YEARS since anyone could even attempt to explain some of my "whopper" dreams and "what was going on with me." This book is the next best thing to physically sitting there with you.I actually think this book could save someone's LIFE because it puts an end to stigmas and reassures a person that their dreams can help them see things in a whole new light...THEIR TRUE LIGHT...and THEN you can proceed to go "fixing" from THAT point. The price point is such that I can afford to get copies and give them to others who are just looking for a little more direction or at least a starting point of what type of therapist to see.

This brilliant little tome is a dream analysis and exploration gem. If you are interested in Jungian concepts, from archetypes to dreams, or dream analysis in general then you will love this book. It is the kind of work that bears reading and re-reading. If you purchase this book and Man and His Symbols along with What We May Be: Techniques for Psychological and Spiritual Growth Through Psychosynthesis, you may have all the tools you need to explore the unconscious information about your individuation and psychological, emotional and spiritual development (as well as the meaning of your dreams). Happy reading~*

"I bought this book on the advice of a friend and thought it would be an interesting read. What I didn't count on was the extensive experience and research of the author in trying to seek real life meaning from the dream of countless clients over the past 20 or so years of his practice. I would imagine after all the case studies over 20 years that certain similarities would develop with similar dreams and correlating to real life experiences, and this work attempts to show the reader what certain symbolism's have in the conscious world. I found the archetypes very interesting and can see myself and some people in my life in them. Its almost unnerving how closely the archetype image fits! I was expecting an interesting read from this book, but was not expecting, but pleasantly surprised by, the high degree of research and science also present. This book will make an excellent read for anyone who is interested in discovering the possible meanings of their dreams.

Having read other reviews of "Dreams: Guide To The Soul" I was looking forward to gaining insights about the hidden meanings behind my own dreams. I was rather disappointed in this book. None of the dreams Dr. Fox presented in his book came close to resembling the content of my own dreams, so these examples were pretty much irrelevant to me. Many Jungian dream archetypes were described and interpreted in this book, which were mildly interesting, but these archetypes almost never appear in my dreams. I guess I must have a very boring psyche, because I mainly have dreams about mundane situations like trying to drive a car that has no engine, walking around an unfamiliar city and getting lost, riding on a bus while not wearing pants, taking a final exam I didn't study for, etc. I'd rather learn more about how to interpret those types of images instead of lurid images of snakes, tigers, fire and water, or the father/mother action/emotion Jungian archetypes Dr. Fox highlighted.I'd summarize "Dreams: Guide To The Soul" as mildly interesting but not particularly relevant or helpful.

I found this book while searching for a dream interpretation guide. This one offers compelling and practical advice for understanding your dreams. The author states that our subconscious creates dreams to motivate, inspire, guide, or warn us--complete with age-old metaphors and archetypes--and condenses all the information into a brain infomercial. By explaining the purpose and significance of archetypes like the Heroic Masculine and the Trickster figure, Dr. Fox gives us the tools to understand our dreams. As an educator who teaches literary analysis, I understand the significance and power of metaphor and archetype in literature and in life. Applying the same concepts to dreams makes perfect sense. For example, I have many dreams where I am in a house--the author explains how to interpret the house metaphor! The Divine Child, a part of our "psyche that holds our hopes and dreams," is another archetype I found truly intriguing.Don't expect to zip through this book for answers to your latest dream, though. There's a plethora of examples, ideas, and concepts to chew on. I find myself rereading the examples and explanations, and then pausing to reflect on my own Big Dreams. This is a resource I will refer to again and again.Pharaoh had Joseph to interpret his dreams--- I'll be using Dreams: Guide to the Soul--40 Keys to Healing, Renewal, and Power.

I have a legal pad of notes from this one. Though I have larger interpretation volumes in my library, the Jungian-driven study and understanding dreams' intended communication to the human psyche was so very helpful to me. Thanks to the author for this insightful book.
